Concept
First time students to the Community Clay program are required to attend their introductory session on the first Tuesday of the month for an orientation to the studio and initial private lesson. Topics covered will be: the basics of the equipment, safety, maintenance and cleaning, firing options, and the vocabulary of the ceramic medium. Techniques you will try are slab-rolling and hand-building with clay, throwing a simple bowl on the wheel, and decorating your bowl with underglazes.

Concept
Peninsula School of Art’s ceramics studio is open to Members on Wednesday and Thursday evenings for potters of all levels who are interested in self-guided creation of works in a communal setting. Hand-building areas as well as pottery wheels are available for use. No formal instruction, just a fun and productive time in the studio with other people making pottery. Renee and Roger will assist you and present short demos on different techniques. Fees for supplies and firings are additional.
Instructors
Renee Schwaller has studied art at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, the University of Minnesota and the University of Hawaii. Renee owns and operates Off the Wheel Gallery in Egg Harbor. www.offthewheelpottery.com
