Medium: Pencil, Charcoal • Level: Beginner
Member Tuition: $320 + model fees
Non-Member Tuition: $345 + model fees

Concept
Conquer the intimidation that many people feel while attempting to draw the human face. You will first draw each other, then move on to creating self portraits from mirrors, and then finally, work from a live model. Keeping it simple, the class will deal only with pencil and charcoal on paper. Working primarily from life, learn how to pose and light a model, observe proportions, and capture a likeness. Time is also set aside to work from photos.
Experience
There will be many demos to expose and explore the process of making a portrait. You should expect to finish at least one live portrait and have a good start on the project from your reference photo, with the confidence to finish it on your own. In the future, you should be able to approach portraiture with new confidence.
Instructor
Katie Musolff received a BFA in Painting from the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design. Her teaching credits include both painting classes and continuing education programs at MIAD, workshops at the Cedarburg Cultural Center, and private lessons, instructing on basic drawing, portrait painting, figure drawing, and color theory. Katie shows her work nationally, and is represented by Elaine Erickson Gallery in Milwaukee. A full-time painter, she works out of her studio in Bayview, near Milwaukee. www.katiemusolff.com
