Upcoming Exhibits
We LOVE Winter
January 21 - March 8
Peninsula Art School’s Guenzel Gallery will fill with artwork by children. This year, our walls will turn into pages of a book, showing the highlights of Hans Christian Andersen’s story ‘The Snow Queen.’ The book’s seven stories will be depicted on the walls of the gallery. Children will be encouraged to add their own drawings to these images. Students from local schools will also help to create a life-size igloo, woodland animals and the Snow Queen herself. Join us during this exhibit for family friendly storytime and activities. The exhibit runs through March 8.
Women Who Run with Scissors
Exhibition: March 21-April 26
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 5, 5pm to 7pm
A playful twist on an old warning, the name of this group of Wisconsin quilters hints at their contemporary take on the traditional art of quilting. From the variety of embellishments and techniques, to the inspired themes woven into these works, Women Who Run with Scissors elevates expression through quilting to fine art.
Far and Near Horizons
Hosted by Peninsula Art School in the Link Gallery of the Door Community Auditorium
April 21 - May 21
Opening Reception: Saturday, April 26, 1-3pm
An international art exhibit organized by two of the world’s foremost contemporary Landscape Painting groups – Landscape Artists International (LAI) and International Plein Air Painters (IPAP). This unique gathering of artists from around the globe features 18 signature and charter members (expanding to 30 juried artists in 2008) who currently represent five countries. IPAP specializes in Landscape Paintings done entirely en plein air (outside), while LAI members paint landscapes in both plein air and studio settings. The Far and Near Horizons World Tour launched its tour in June 2007 and plans several stops in the 2008-2009 seasons, including the Link Gallery.

A Painted History of Fish Creek
May 2 through June 14
Opening Reception: Saturday, May 3, 5-7pm
As Fish Creek celebrates its sesquicentennial (150th birthday), acrylic painter and Fish Creek native Andrea Jauquet takes us to the town of her childhood during the 1950s and 1960s. Many of the scenes she honors in her largescale works have disappeared with area development in recent years. Jauquet’s paintings are joined by the works of plein air artists and former Fish Creek summer residents, Alice Hotz Apfelbach and her brother, Ferdinand Hotz. Their paintings reflect the landscape of Fish Creek for over thirty years, beginning in the 1920s.
Now & Then: Current and Early Works by Faculty
June 20 through July 17
Opening Reception: Saturday, June 21, 5-7pm
This year’s annual faculty exhibit takes you back to the beginning of our instructors’ artistic journeys. As past work contrasts with recent pieces, this is a collection everyone can relate to, no matter where they are on their creative quest.
Door County Plein Air Festival 2008
July 20 through August 2
For two weeks the Guenzel Gallery will feature a parade of Door County landscapes by over 35 invited artists during our second annual Door County Plein Air Festival. See Events page for more information.
Tribal Textiles of Southeast Asia
August 8 through September 20
Opening Reception: Friday, August 8, 5-7pm
From the Land of Silk comes the intricate, colorful handiwork of the women of China’s ethnic minority groups. Courtesy of The Linden Gallery, Ellison Bay, on view will be the woven treasures recently claimed by Brian and Jeanee Linden during their travels to this exotic area. Many of these hand-embroidered everyday pieces and festival costumes have never been displayed in the United States.
