Concept
Kids are welcomed into the professional Clay Studio at the Peninsula School of Art this winter! Come for three Saturdays in a row, and try your hand at a variety of clay projects, both decorative and useful, and master the techniques of hand-building. Objectives will include exploring the 3-dimensional form, creativity, pattern, shape, texture, and increasing skill with clay.
Experience
We will use tried-and-true techniques to create some beautiful pieces worthy of display, including tile self-portraits, and learn different techniques for creating bowls with handles and feet. Next hand-build birds of every type and create a mug for your favorite beverage. Finally paint your pottery with colorful underglazes. The work will be fired and be available for pick up at a later date. Bring a smock or old shirt and dress to get messy!
Instructor
Jeanne Aurelius is a recognized clay artist and teacher, specializing in workshops and hand-building and tile-making. Working with her husband David, they have completed several large public school tile murals, and operate Clay Bay Pottery in Ellison Bay. www.ClayBayPottery.net
